Weekly Summary:

Oddballs,

A tough week this. We tumbled into 20th place from 18th I’m sorry to say a new low for the season. We got 30 points this week. The results however do not reflect how well we bowled. On average individual games were decided by 34 pins this week.

Mark & friends Words of Wisdom:

Just a reminder, whenever you hear Mark or anyone else speak some particular wisdom send the bowling group a text to have it added here.

While I was tuning out the other team, I probably missed all of Mark’s wisdom this week. I did capture one from Brian. “Now I remember why we don’t like these guys. They are really good.” Yes they are and they are cocky SOBs as well.

Tips & Tricks:

This week I’m looking at Physical Triggers. See Bowling this Month, 10/27/2026.

Everyone wants to make better decisions out on the lanes. This week’s tip offers the “Three P’s” as a means to improve the lane play aspect of your game.

The “Three P’s” of Lane Play

When it comes down to it, effective lane play really comes down to three things:

  • Perceive: Watch every aspect of your ball’s motion from the time it hits the lane to the time it goes off the pin deck. Pay attention to how the pins and ball deflect.
  • Process: Analyze the information to decide if you need an adjustment and to determine what to do. With experience, this can be done unconsciously. When you’re confused, make sure you take the time you need to consciously process the available information. Reach out to other team members for their thoughts.
  • Perform: Once you’ve made a decision, commit to your desired plan and simply execute the shot.

Upon Reflection:

In the first game I was struggling to get strikes and at the end of the game I wasn’t getting the ball movement I wanted. In the second game ball movement problems continued and I started with 2 splits. I think I need to consider a ball change whenever I start stringing splits and when the ball isn’t doing what I want. Game 3 proved this was a good decision. I couldn’t get beyond the 6 strike threshold. What are you going to focus on?

Next Week:

Prepare to Win!
